If you have Therapy Services (AKA Capacity Building Daily Living) in your NDIS plan, we have an Occupational Therapist, Exercise Physiologist, Physiotherapist, Psychologist, Dietitian and Speech Pathologist who can assess your needs and write a plan to help you achieve your goals.
Our team are all members of leading professional organisations.
My name is Bridget and I am from the beautiful South Island of Aotearoa (New Zealand). This is where I completed my Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Master of Dietetics studies. I recently joined the team at Realise Ability and I also work as a dietitian at Esperance Hospital.
Before living in Esperance, I was working in East Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory. And prior to that I was based in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. I have always enjoyed working alongside children and their families and love this part of my job.
My role at Realise Ability involves addressing your child’s growth, nutrient and mealtime challenges. I encourage a child-led approach to feeding therapy and prioritise client and family centered goals when establishing a treatment plan.
I work in collaboration with our fantastic RA team and I feel passionate about helping others to optimise their nutrition and live healthy lives.
In my spare time I enjoy ocean swimming, reading my book, yoga and hiking. I love making food and value time spent with my friends and family.
I grew up in a small country town in central west NSW called Forbes. I moved to Canberra 5 years ago to complete my Bachelor of Physiotherapy.
I have family in Esperance and my partner and I came to visit them in Esperance for Christmas in 2022. We loved the town and the community and 12 months later we have decided to make the move here.
I love all things outdoors which is why Esperance is so awesome for us. I am passionate about adventure and sport, especially CrossFit and motorcross. Which is where my passion for physiotherapy started.
I have been a Therapy Assistant with kids while I was studying and am excited to be a part of the Realise Ability Team and meet the wonderful community of Esperance and surrounds.
While we search for our next Occupational Therapist Extraordinaire we have formed a partnership with Linda and Unify Connections OT.
Linda started her journey supporting children and adults with a disability in 2011, when she worked as a early intervention assistant before moving on to her support worker role, while she studied for her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy at Curtin University. After graduating in 2018, Linda was a community-based Occupational Therapist in regional and rural settings supporting a wide range of people and abilities until 2020 when she uncovered her passion for working with children.
Linda has supported neurodiverse children along with their families to acquire a wide range of skills through teletherapy and face to face appointments.
She has been a welcome addition to our team and provides some amazing multi-disciplinary therapy with our local therapists and therapy assistants.
We are so fortunate to have Linda work with our team both through Telehealth and Face to Face appointments.
All telehealth appointments through Realise Ability include admin support, use of the therapy room and resources and allow for your RA therapy assistants or therapists to work with you and Linda during the appointment.
I moved to Esperance and joined our team in 2022. I completed my studies at Murdoch University, receiving first-class honours for my thesis on resilience amongst persons with MS.
During my studies I worked as a support-worker for adults experiencing mental health issues. This gave me great insight into the daily struggles faced by these people and taught me just as much about resilience as my thesis did! Since working at Realise Ability, I have enjoyed re-focusing on children's mental health. I believe that the work we do gives our young clients the chance to learn the skills that will eventually help them to fulfil their true potential as adults. As someone who is also interested in the arts and music, I very much enjoy the creative aspects that come with this job too - I don't mind going home covered in paint and glitter at all!
NB: Lydia and her partner have recently relocated to Perth. While we find our next Psychologist, Lydia is continuing to support our team and her clients via Telehealth
Having worked in various positions in government, private and not for profit practices for 20 years, I have finally found my happy place in peadiatric disability. I have three teenage children who, due to the weird and wonderful songs, conversations and activities we did when they were young, all talk too much.
I love providing “therapy through stealth”. This means taking communication and social goals and practicing them in environments that are important to the child and their family. My favourite part of everyday is to see the wonder on kids and their parents' faces when they realise they can do it, and that they did it through play and fun, not in a clinic room and not through drills and hard work.
At Realise Ability I am lucky enough to support children and families with communication development through infancy, childhood, youth and young adulthood and am kept on my toes with the variety this brings. I really enjoy working in the early communication, play and feeding spaces and you will generally find me at the park, the beach or cooking when I am providing “therapy”. I think outside the box, love a challenge and will problem solve until we find a solution!
Born and raised in Victoria I moved to WA at the beginning of 2022 for a new adventure and some warmer weather. After enjoying Perth for a year, I recently made the move to Esperance where I am loving the scenery and lifestyle that comes with a rural town. In my spare time I enjoy playing netball, going for walks, swimming and surfing.
Since graduating I have worked primarily within the disability sector supporting individuals of all ages from kids to elderly to make the most of their daily life. I am passionate about child led therapy and believe everyone is the expert in their own lives meaning that therapy should be about helping to achieve their greatest goals regardless of societal expectations. Because of this I enjoy supporting people in their own environments such as at home, school, their favourite playgrounds or shopping centres.
I love being a Speech Pathologist because it gives me the opportunity to meet new and wonderful people every day and build relationships with the people I support where I learn from them just as much as I may teach. I feel very privileged to have the opportunity to assist people every day to find their voice and be able to express themselves in their own unique and individual ways.
By far the hairiest member of the team, Molly is always up for a walk, a ball game, a run or simply a cuddle. She is a great listener!
Molly is a Cavoodle who joined the team at 3 months old. Her training has begun with basic obedience and she will shortly start official therapy dog training. She is missing her back left knee cap and you might see her holding that leg in the air every now and again. It doesn’t hurt and it definitely doesn’t stop her from doing the fastest zoomies we have ever seen!
I am passionate about helping people improve their health and wellness through exercise. As an exercise physiologist, I have seen firsthand the positive impact that exercise can have on individuals.
I hold an undergraduate degree in Exercise Physiology and a Master's degree in Exercise Medicine (Oncology). My educational background has equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed to work with clients of all ages and backgrounds, and to prescribe exercise plans tailored to their specific needs and goals. After gaining valuable experience in other parts of the country, I have returned to my hometown of Esperance and am enjoying working back in the community where I grew up. I am working in a variety of places in town and with a variety of clients including private practice and disability.
Exercise is a powerful tool for improving both physical and mental health. However, in order for exercise to be effective, it needs to be tailored to the individual's needs and abilities. I have experience in all forms of exercise prescription, and I work closely with my patients to create personalized plans that are both safe and effective. I firmly believe that when trust is established, better results can be achieved.
